Ietsie warm vir 'n koue dag

As die Kaapse weer so koud is soek 'n mens altyd iets wat jou warm sal maak, ietsie van binne, 'n warm koppie tee, koffie warm sjokolade en party keer 'n ietsie sterker!  Dit is egter nie net die drankie wat 'n mens warm laat voel nie, maar ook as jy dit kan geniet saam met harts mense of in party gevalle net in rustigheid van 'n paar minute met jouself.  So in die gees van warmte, kuier en "indulgance" het ek 'n paar respepte gaan soek.  Julle sal sien dit wissel want natuurlik het ons almal verskillende smake.  Daar is 'n paar wat 'n mens vooraf kan maak en in 'n houer kan berg - net reg vir wanner jy dit die nodigste het (by die kantoor, of studio of voor die kaggel).  So kan jy enige tyd lekker kuier sonder min moeite

Heerlike koffie kuier


Spoel pot uit met water
Gooi genog melk in vir die aantal gaste en plaas op stoof
Gooi bietjie room by
Indien jy sjokolade in die huis het, breek stukkies in die melk en room
Gooi genoeg ordentlike koffie in - kistkoffie
Maak die toof stadig - melk moet nie oorkook nie
Voeg vanieljegeursel by
Karalmelsuiker - opsioneel
Chilli poeier - opsioneel
Gooi die koffie in bekers en gooi vars room  bo-oor
Krummel sjokolade oor.

Starbuck Chai Tea


Ingredients:
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups milk (I use skim)
  • 6-8 black or decaf black tea bags
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves (I use less because I don't like too strong a clove taste)
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger (or a mashed small chunk of fresh)
Directions
Bring water and milk to a boil. Add other ingredients, return to boil. Turnoff heat and let steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove tea bags then filter throughfine strainer. Good hot or cold. (you can keep it in the refrigerator and microwave it if you want it hot.)


Hot Cocoa 

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups sugar

2 1/4 cups cocoa

1 tablespoon salt

whole (milk for serving)

Mix together sugar, cocoa and salt. For individual servings heat one cup of whole milk in microwave or on stove untiljust hot. Add 2 tablespoons of hot cocoa mix and stir to dissolve. For larger servings, follow the same method above, using 2 tablespoons hot cocoa powder for every cup of milk used. Store hot cocoa mix in airtight container. Add your favorite garnish, such as cinnamon or marshmallows!

Spiced Hot Chocolate

Cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg add warm spicy tones to this delicious, creamy hot chocolate. The spices in this hot chocolate can make an ordinary day seem like a special occasion

Yield: 4 1/2 cups

225g gram bittersweet chocolate

1 cup water

3 cups whole milk

4 cinnamon sticks

5 whole cloves

2/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon freshly grated or ground nutmeg

Finely chop the chocolate. Place the chopped chocolate and the water in the y

top of a double boiler over hot water. Stir often with a rubber spatula until the chocolate is sompletely melted. In a medium heavy-duty saucepan, combine the milk, cinnamon sticks, and cloves. Warm over medium heat until the mlik begins to boil. Stir the milk into the chocolate mixture. Remove the top of the double boiler. Wipe the bottom and sides of the pan very dry. Pour the mixture into the saucepan. Add 2/3 cup sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cinnamon sticks. Rinse the cinnamon sticks, dry with paper towles, and save to use for garnish. Add 1/2 cup cream to the mixture in the pan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. In a small mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the remaining 1/2 cup cream until frothy. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Whip until the cream holds soft peaks. Divide the hot chocolate among 4 mugs. Top each mug with a big scoop of the whipped cream. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg on top of the four mugs and garnish them with the reserved sinnamon sticks.

Cappuccino Mix Recipe


Yield: 3-1/2 cups

Ingredients:

1 cup powdered instant nondairy creamer

1 cup chocolate-flavored drink mix

3/4 cup instant coffee(decaffinated or regular)

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Combine creamer, chocolate drink mix, instant coffee, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium bowl. Store in an airtight container.  To use, combine 2 tablespoons of mix with 170gram boiling water.  Garnish with whipped cream.  For a kick add 1 tablespoon Frangelico

Instant Latte Mix Recipe 


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
  • 1/2 cup powdered nondairy creamer
  • 1/3 cup instant coffee granules
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup instant vanilla pudding mix

  • ADDITIONAL INGREDIENT FOR HOT LATTE:
  • 3/4 cup hot water

  • ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS FOR ICED LATTE:
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
Directions
  • In a blender, combine the milk powder, creamer, coffee granules, sugar and pudding mix; cover and process until mixture is a fine powder. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months. Yield: 1-3/4cups.
  • To prepare hot latte: Dissolve 1/4 cup mix in hot water; stir well.
  • To prepare iced latte: Dissolve 1/4 cup mix in hot water; stir in cold water. Transfer to a blender; add ice. Cover and process until blended. Yield: 7 servings.
 
Nutella Hot Chocolate:

  • 1 cup whole milk (feel free to substitute skim, rice, almond, etc)
  • 3 tb Nutella or other chocolate-hazelnut spread
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp high-quality cocoa powder
  • 1 or more marshmallows
  • pinch of espresso powder (optional)

In a heavy-bottomed sauce pan over a low flame, whisk together the milk,Nutella, cocoa powder, and espresso (if using). Add cinnamon stick. Simmer for about 5 minutes, to allow flavors to meld.

Serves one, generously.

Red Sangria with Pomegranate
 
Ingredients: 

2 bottles fruity red wine
1/2 cup brandy or cognac
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 large pomegranate
1 red Bartlett pear, cored and thinly sliced


1 orange, thinly sliced into rounds
1 cup red grapes, sliced in half lengthwise
1/3 cup honey
1 bunch fresh mint leaves, reserving some for garnish
1 bottle sparkling water (optional)
 

Combine ingredients except sparkling water in a glass pitcher and let sit at room temperature for one hour. Refrigerate for at least two hours, or overnight. Spoon some fruit into glasses and top with a splash of sparkling water (if using), garnish with mint.
